Unsolicited Advice: Book the Bridal Portrait Session

Some would call it a case of the post wedding blues (slightly true), others might guess I just needed a new project (admittedly, yes) and still others might say I just wanted one more excuse to wear my amazing Dana Harel dress and HOMA veil again (wholly and completely true).  Either way, after our November wedding in Nashville was over, I had the urge to book a bridal portrait session in Los Angeles, the city where Ary and I first met when we were in college and where we later fell in love, got engaged and started our lives together.

I enjoyed every minute of our wedding day. I didn’t really feel stressed or nervous and I truly felt that the day was more incredible than I had dreamt, down to the very last detail. Still, due to the fact that Ary and I were married in a boutique hotel in November and most of our guests were staying there, we didn’t get the opportunity to take outdoor portraits due to the weather and the fact that I didn’t want anyone to see me in my dress before the ceremony. A few of my friends booked separate wedding portrait sessions and they said it was one of the best decisions that they made. So, I decided to trust my intuition and somehow convinced my husband that it would be a good idea to get dressed up in our wedding day attire for a second time and take some photos against a beautiful backdrop in LA without the stress or pressing timelines of the wedding day…and I am so, so glad that we did.

Everything fell into place and I could not be happier with the way that these pictures turned out, thanks to our photographer Jorden DeGaetano of Citizen of Earth (who also urged us to book Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills!).  It felt like we were roaming around the grounds of a European estate…a magical day that yielded magical photos and put an exclamation point on the entire experience of getting married to my husband.  Brides & Grooms, this is your sign to book the bridal portrait session 😉
